Professor Yongho Kim of Gachon University College of Medicine and CEO of RudaCure Inc. was recently selected as a participant in the Ministry of Science and ICT's 'Platform Core Technology Development Project for Responding to New and Variant Infectious Diseases.' The project involves Gachon University as well as Seoul National University, Chung-Ang University, Sungkyunkwan University, and others.
This project was newly established this year to strengthen national infectious disease response capabilities, protect public health, improve medical welfare, and secure international competitiveness. Led by the Ministry of Science and ICT, it aims to build an infectious disease technology platform through the development of core and gap technologies in respective fields.
Professor Kim will conduct research for four years starting this year on the theme of "Development of Viroporin (viral ion channel protein) target inhibition technology based on ion channel function verification systems," and will receive approximately KRW 2 billion in government research funding over the four-year period.
Professor Kim is an expert in ion channels and conducts clinical and preclinical research together with faculty at the Gachon Pain Research Institute within Gachon University College of Medicine.
